Is this an octopus or a swordfish?

Is this an octopus or a swordfish?

And what does it have to do with marketing?

As Amanda Goetz, the former VP of Marketing of the Knot, shared on LinkedIn, an octopus is a marketing activity that has multiple channels attached to it.

For example, a podcast interview that can be repurposed into a blog post, YouTube video, and multiple social media posts.

A swordfish, on the other hand, only has one channel attached to it.

Think a quote graphic that you share on Instagram.

So the next time you’re trying to decide which marketing activity to prioritize, ask yourself, is this an octopus or a swordfish?

Choose the octopus.
