How to set fees for your therapy practice

Price is one of the “Four Ps” of marketing.

If you’re wondering, the other three are product, place, and promotion. More here from the American Marketing Association.

How much you charge for your services as a therapist impacts how you market yourself, and ultimately, how you get clients.

So how much should you charge?

It depends on how much you want to earn.

You should have a money goal. Then work backwards from there.

For example, if you want to make $100,000 per year, then you’ll need to charge at least $110 per session and see at least 20 clients per week, assuming six weeks of vacation.

Keep in mind those numbers are before taxes and expenses, so you’ll want to add a buffer.

You can earn more by charging more per session, seeing more clients, or taking less time off.

It’s just math.

Heard has a fee-setting calculator you can play around with.
