How to use Reddit to market your practice

Reddit is the ninth most popular website on the internet, ahead of Amazon (source).

But it doesn’t get as much attention as Facebook or Instagram when it comes to marketing for therapists.

If you’re not familiar, Reddit is an online network of communities called “subreddits.” The therapists subreddit (r/therapists) has 139,000 members.

Google recently announced a partnership with Reddit, which has resulted in Reddit showing up more in Google Search results. From March 2022 to February 2024, estimated monthly visits to Reddit from Google increased from 100M to nearly 600M. That’s a lot of traffic.

So why should you care?

Because you can use it to your advantage. Here’s how.

Browse posts in r/therapists and respond to questions you can answer. People will “upvote” helpful replies. Don’t ask for anything in return. Just add value.

According to Ross Simmons, the Golden Rule of Reddit is, “Don’t be promotional. Be valuable.”

Once you’ve added value to the community, then you can post a link to a recent blog post, YouTube video, or podcast you’ve published, driving traffic to your website. More traffic means more referrals.

Just don’t spam or you’ll get banned.
