What therapists need to know about AI

Will therapists be replaced by robots?

By now, you’ve probably heard about artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, the chatbot capable of generating human-like text.

AI isn’t new. Humans have been trying to build artificial intelligence since the 1950s. Remember Eliza?

It has become more mainstream in the last year with the introduction of ChatGPT. Anyone can submit a command and ChatGPT will spit out a response. It’s kind of wild, actually.

But AI is only as good as the data it’s pulling from. It’s not capable of genuine, human connection. See the eating disorder helpline that had to take down their chatbot after it gave weight loss advice.

I’m not worried about AI replacing therapists. And neither should you, at least any time soon.

With that said, I’m very bullish about AI for streamlining workflows for therapists. I love how Upheal is leveraging AI to help therapists save time on documentation.

And while AI can be helpful to generate marketing ideas for your therapy practice, you shouldn’t let it write content for you. Write in your voice instead.

Clients want a therapist they can connect with. Not a robot.
