How to generate income beyond 1:1 therapy

Therapists don’t need multiple income streams

But if you’re interested in generating income beyond 1:1 therapy, then you have options.

First, think about what you're uniquely qualified to create an offering about. What outcome(s) can you help deliver, and for who? Maybe it’s helping therapists grow their practices, helping athletes build more confidence, or helping work teams better manage conflict. There’s no “one size fits all” approach here, but it should be rooted in your expertise as a mental health professional.

Next, think about how to deliver your offering. This could be in the form of a coaching package, a consulting offering, or a paid speaking engagement. The price should be determined by the value you’re delivering, not the time you’re spending.

I’ll say that again. In a “valued-based pricing” model, the price you charge is determined by the value you provide, not the time you spend. Mentally, this is a big shift away from charging an hourly rate, but it can be a huge unlock for making more money.

Finally, think about how to market your offering. What’s the path of least resistance? Who do you have access to? Can you ask them for referrals?

Want to go deeper? I’m teaming up with Dr. Alex Auerbach to offer Beyond 1:1 Therapy, a four-week, cohort-based course course for therapists who want to expand their income beyond 1:1 therapy. Enrollment for Cohort One is limited to 20 spots and closes on Friday, March 7. Click here to secure your spot.
